A Look To The Past

Hi my loves! And happy Wednesday to you all.

Today I'm looking to the past and the romantic nostalgia that comes with it.  I love using vintage pieces from both my family as well as Js.  Whether it be jewelry, coats, hats, clutches or china, silver and gold rimmed glassware.  It all takes me back and reminds me of a simpler time and of loved ones lost. And I cherish each and every piece.

My parents recently told me that they have some vintage costume jewelry and a beautiful Japanese tea set from my grandmother that they'd like to pass onto me & my sister. And I couldn't be more touched to be given the opportunity to own some more of her things.  She was such a wonderful woman, I can't really describe in words how incredible she was, and she had such exquisite taste and I'm truly grateful to be given the opportunity to own any bit of her.

How about you all? Do you all have things passed on from loved ones?  If so, what's your most treasured item?

Have a wonderful day, sweets! :)

xoxo

I think my favorite is a round mirror which was a wedding present to my paternal grandparents and I now have it in my possession. I need to get it cleaned and the backing changed but it's beautiful in itself and as a reminder of an event that essentially led to my being here! xoxox

Yes! I have my grandmother's wedding china ~ serving for 9, but a few pieces have been broken. Whenever I'm entertaining a larger group, I always bring it out.

I have the exact gold pillow shames at the top.. and a tufted headboard!

Enjoy your day today Dawn!

How wonderful! I can't say I've collected things passed on from generation to generation, but I deeply cherish the gifts I've received from my grandparents, parents, family in general. They put so much thought into this, as I do too, and it's always so moving when I receive a present from any of them. xo

I also have some china like Leslie, from Royal Copenhagen, they do wonderful stuff even today. I hope you get pleased with the jewellery you get, and that you wear it! xo Caroline

Family heirlooms are the best! They have so much meaning and you really do cherish them. They put a smile on your face when you look at them. Although not expensive, my grandmother left some jewelry that I cherish. She loved her pearls and chunky necklaces. When I look at them or wear them, I often think about her. Have a great Wednesday Dawn.

I cannot wait to be able to go through my grandparents things and try to envision their life. Such a sweet sentiment.

This post is GORGEOUS! I have a bunch of depression glass from a great Aunt. Can't part with it because it was hers. She loved costume jewelry too and had some great pieces. xo

It will be so lovely to have your grandmother's jewelry! I proudly wore my mom's pearl necklace and bracelet during my wedding and it was so special to borrow those pieces from her!

My Dad passed away when I was younger & I have his high school ring. Not something I can wear really but it's one of my most prized possessions.

I don't really have anything that was passed down, but it sounds like you and your sister are going to inherit some very wonderful pieces.

So love reading this. You know, it's strange, it's reading a post like this that makes me realize...I don't really have any things like that?! Perhaps I'll have to be the one to start the tradition in my family for future generations to come ;)

It's wonderful to have something that reminds you of your grandma. I don't have anything like that yet, although there's something special my parents kept for me and are planning to bring it over some day (we live in different countries now, which makes thing a bit more complicated at times...)

Some of my most cherished possession are those passed on to my from loved ones. So many memories in them. it is funny, because I just started reading Happier at Home (by Gretchen Rubin) and was just on the chapter where she was discussing this very thing.

You are clearly right! The Nostalgia and the history of "old or antique" things and beautiful things is wonderful.

Aah, that's so lovely and such a touching way to be reminded of incredible people once in your life.

I have a couple of fur coats actually that belonged to my Grandma - they're absolutely beautiful, and I'm so grateful to be able to give them a new lease of life too.

I love treasures passed on within the family. My mom gave me some of her jewelry as well as gold from her mom a few years back. My mom in law has given me some fine China pieces as well, which i love!

Same here, family treasure sure brings nostalgic feeling to me. Got a necklace from my mother, a gift given by my father when he was still courting her. Sweet. Got my eye on your next posts.
