Gloss Gawking

I have to admit something. I'm a beauty stalker. I know, sounds horrible, right? I promise it's all for a good reason though. I'm a beauty product developer and it's kind of part of my job. The more I know about a person's beauty habits the more I'm able to come up with ideas of newer, better, products. All in the name of research :) You know those people who apply their makeup on the commute to work? Well, my eyes are all over that! I just can't look away! I try to be as discrete as possible about it but I know that the poor women probably feel my stare.

Well, I'm happy to say that now I have a new way to satisfy my obsession and perhaps spare a few poor NYers from my morning gawk. Emily Weiss, former Teen Vogue super intern {you may remember her from The Hills} created Into The Gloss, a fresh new take on beauty blogging, and I cannot get enough of it!

Here's Emily's take on what makes her blog stand apart from the other countless beauty blogs out there...

IntoTheGloss.com is a blog dedicated to Beauty, from the Inside. No, not from within, although that’s great too—Inside in this case means Inside the fashion industry and on the street. You’ll find influencers from editors to stylists and models divulging their carefully curated products, routines and inspirations. You’ll find makeup artists, hair stylists and myriad other specialists talking about what makes them tick, their top tools, and their visions of what’s to come. You’ll see backstage. You’ll see product highlights. And you’ll see the new kids on the block— the assistants, the up-and-comers—along with the intriguing characters out and about, who are shaping our idea of modern Beauty.

The best thing about ITG is the access Emily has to all of these "influencers", top editors, models, stylists, etc. They really open up to her and dish all things beauty. In turn, she presents the info in a refreshing, approachable fashion. My favorite category is “The Top Shelf" where fashion isiders such as Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Lauren Santo Domingo, Jen Brill, and Karlie Kloss open up their beauty cabinets, drawers and bags to reveal their skincare, make-up, hair and nail routines. Surprise, surprise, right? A beauty stalkers dream!

Before I go today I was wondering if you'd indulge a beauty stalker a bit and reveal a few of your beauty bests. What are your faves? I'd LOVE to know! :)

Hope you all have a beautiful day! And happy last day of March!

OK Dawn, some of my beauty buys are:
*Diorshow or YSL mascara
*Just started using L'Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Primer, and it's really good.
*MAC, Givenchy or Bobbi Brown foundation and eye-liner
*Bobbi Brown Blusher
*Clinique, MAC or Chanel lipsticks
*Weleda, Sisley or SKII skincare (started using the latter when I lived in Hong-Kong. Expensive but fab)
*Origins Halo Effect Illuminator (really good and lasts ages!)

Ive heard about the blog...Ill have to take a peek....I know what you mean about those women who do their makeup in a cab or something, lol....either they dont need much, dont care how it ends up looking....or they are JUST that good at it:)

You have such a cool job! I am totally useless at all things make up/beauty related. My friend is training to be a make up artist and she's going to do some looks on me that I'll be blogging soon. Hopefully then I'll be a bit better informed!

Thanks for sharing.. I will be checking out her blog for sure! I know I've said it before but my idea of Heaven would be just like a Sephora store. I am loving Estee Lauder's Glow Lotion... it gives you a really healthy, glowy look. You truly have a dream job! xo

Her blog looks fabulous and very interesting (I just took a peek), definitely have to look longer and more often. In case it helps you get inspiration my beauty routine exists of many Dermalogica products (I'm in love with the skin renewal booster and/or daily microfoliant). They have the best hydrating foundation for me. I also use Laura Mercier camouflage products and translucent powder. Favorite mascara is from Bodyshop:) Have a lovely last day of March too!

Thanks for the information...how sweet of you to share. I am heading over after I comment.

As a former cosmetic girl who's cosmetic bags are running low, I will benefit from those who are in-the-know. It's funny, I can still identify the scent women are wearing. Sometimes I ask if they are wearing (ex.) No. 5 to see if I'm right. I heart cosmetics!

oooh sounds like you have my dream job! I could spend forever looking and trying new beauty products. Of late, my favorites are Makeup For Ever Smoky Lash (best mascara of all time!) and Fresh sugar rose lip balm.

It sounds like such a great blog and I totally do that too..I love watching people and see what type of make-up they wear. There is a girl that just moved into my building and she wears the most amazing shade of pink lipstick so as she already knows me a bit from the morning small chit chat, last week I simply asked her what lipstick she wears...haha..She was so lovely about it all:) Happy Thursday, darling

Oh gosh I'm such a beginner when it comes to make-up, but my favorites are all Clinique. I love their tinted moisturizer, eye liner cream, and their blush.

I love the sound of this blog! Off to check it out.

Thanks for let us know more about you and your job, sound fantastic! and also thanks for the links, are gorgeous. I use a natural make up and I would like to know more about how to do it better. For clean and care my face i use Esthederm products and my beautician helps me since I was 12 years! I am sure that is important to care the skin to not accelerate the aging. Simply is health, but not frivolous.

Oh my goodness, I can't wait to check this out. As for my faves, I am a total YSL lover. The teint majeur, touche eclat, and volume effet faux cils (#5) mascara all rock my world.

It sounds like a very interesting and challenging job you're having. My beauty routine includes Skincode moisturising cream, Maybelline mascara, Clinique face powder and these days I've been wearing a Chanel lipgloss in a burgundy shade, love it. I'm off to have a look at ITG. Hope you have a very beautiful day, Dawn! Ada

oh hunny you know I LOVE THIS POST! I'm a makeup wh*re being that I'm an artist myself... here's many of my faves!

~YSL concealer {best EVER, many concealers CAKE under your eyes and illuminate wrinkles... this is lightweight but full of coverage}

~Bare Minerals "Prime Time" {even if you don't use their powder foundation this is THE BEST primer ever. I've tried so many... Smash Box, etc but they all cause extreme breakouts and tend to be a little more oily}

~MAC Paint Pot in color Bare Study is my all time go to... I use this on all of my clients. It totally enhances the life and color of shadows.... it has a shimmer ot it as well.

~L'Oreal Voluminous mascara {hands DOWN the BEST}

~Lips - you know my red obsession... MAC's Russian Red in both the lipstick + lipglass is my fave. My 2nd fave gloss is Mac's lipglass in Pink Poodle {it's a little more tame}.

Heart chu!

I used to be a complete beauty junkie, but I've toned it down a bit. I still can't live without my products though. I'll have to check out that blog. I always love peeking in other people's bags and cabinets!

You have a FANTASTIC job!!! Some of my faves: love Avene skincare products, lately have been using Murad's hydrating serum along with it. With the new trends in lip color, I've actually been playing around with lots of drugstore brands (Revlon, etc) so that I can experiment with color without spending a ton. And PS, I will NEVER be one of those women doing my makeup on the bus or train!!!

A lovely blog to explore!

For beauty, I'm a total convert to Chanel's cosmetics and the line by Edward Bess. I rarely look at anything else. I can't wait for Chanel's new line of lipsticks to debut here--I'm sure to come home with 3 or 4 just on the first day.

Ooo I want to check out her blog! I love using Arbonne products because they are all natural - basically, I try to avoid putting crazy chemicals on my face. I like all natural beauty products.
Much love,

Lovee Into the Gloss and I can relate, except that I'm an everything stalker, interiors, closets, fashion, kitchens...
My best bets...Aquaphor (for pretty much everything, Sally Hansen Leg Airbrush (to cover soccer bruises and allow me to go without hose), Maybelline Falsies Mascara (works wonders for the price), and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure (currently in Pedal to the Medal).

I am so low key it's embarrassing. Cetaphil lotion, Dove soap, and whatever shampoo smells good. My real make-up is MAC powder, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, and maybelline mascara.

So happy to learn about Emily's blog!!! You are in the know!

I am all over the board, but one thing I swear by is Laura Mercier's foundation primer and Bobbi Brown's lipsticks!

Off to learn what the insider's have to say!

Gorgeous pictures!

I recently bought a great, inexpensive moisturizer that smells heavenly and works wonders! It's from Freeman (Goodstuff Organics). It's full of natural antioxidants... The range of natural and organics cosmetics is pretty limited, so I'm a happy gal!

Dawn first things first...this post is so telling and what a great read. I will check out the blog. I am so excited for your upcoming trip which is about a 20 minute ride from my house....hint hint. Don't forget to visit Anthropologie on the corners of 18th and Walnut right at Rittenhouse sq. it has 4 floors of divine inspiration. Even if you don't like their items, the store itself is a must see. If you get a chance, hit South street around 2nd on up to about 8th st. Maybe you know all of this already but I am excited for you. If you want to meet for a quick cup of coffee I will drive over but if you can't I understand...have fun darling...Dawnxoxo

You job sounds like so much fun...playing with make-up in the name of research?! Can I be your intern? Off to check out your suggestion on the new blog...

A Casa da Vá said...

You sound so funny staring people while they do their make up! Well when I used to work full time I would always apply maskara while I was driving, but now I don't have such a routine so I can tell you a few things I do regardless of going somewhere or not - I do them for myself! Apply Victorias Secret Secret Garden moisturizer (super affordable and smell yummy!), Ipanema Glow sunless tanning, Mac concealer (1st thing I do when wake up!) bronzer and Shu Uemura make up remover... Hair I use Awapuhi shampoo from Paul Mitchell!

hugs and kisses from Rio!
