Vanity Affair

Happy mid-week lovelies. I've always felt like a girl's vanity is her throne. The place that she goes to hold court. With herself. It's where all of the judgement takes place but the wonderful thing is that she's able to magically transform herself to regular to regal beauty.

Working in the wonderful world of beauty has afforded me many luxuries, including my gorgeous glass vanity {which was a prop for an Almay photo shoot back in the mid nineties that I won in raffle} and all of the lotion, potions and other bits of beauty that sit upon it. I do admit that from time to time it tends to get a bit cluttered and I often long for a more minimal look. A few bottles of fragrance, one of two body lotions, my hair & makeup brushes, a little box of makeup and a bouquet of flowers. I'll tell you that's a stark contrast from my reality! Ah it's always good to have something to aspire to, right?

So tell me, lovelies, what do you all display on your vanities? Is it minimilastic and chic or cluttered like mine?

Beautiful post Dawn! My style is definitely minimalistic, I have pretty perfume bottles on display and brushes in gorgeous jars; all other potions are hidden away in draws! xo

Mine is cluttered with feathers and pearls and perfume bottles and jewellery and other bits and bobs, everytime I clear it out, all the clutter comes back in no time, but I love it that way, little bottles to open and smell, lotions to put on, more fun for me really :) Like being in a vintage shop!! xo

I'm just working on my vanity table in my new flat and trying really hard to keep it organised and pretty. Not exactly succeeding yet...

I don't have a vanity but I have a tray crammed full of fragrances and my make up draws need some organization.... it's a little embarrassing the amount of cosmetics I have hoarded over here! I share you love of beauty products. Your job would be dangerous for me!! xo

Isn't it heavenly to be a woman and to be able to indulge fully in vanity without judgement! I love it! :)

I too wish for a perfectly arranged and chic vanity. In fact I want a whole dressing room with an en-suite powder room and walk-in-robe..!
At the moment all I have is a heavily cluttered and jam packed cabinet (a big one!) with all my things. Practicality has taken over since my daughter started walking four years ago.. :)

I adore vanities, the more feminine the better! I love how pretty and dainty your blog is, it feels like a breath of fresh air each time I visit. Thank you for that:)

Mine is SO cluttered... I just can't get rid of anything 'in case I need it'... We're moving soon and our new bathroom doesn't have a lot of storage so I'm already looking into putting shelves up on the wall so I can fit all my stuff in... My husband meanwhile secretly hopes I'll get rid of my clutter... not quite
Have a lovely day xx

Great writing Dawn, I'm always going to hold court in my bathroom mirror and sometimes in another one. But I'd love to have a beautiful vanity table! I'd display my things carefully, probably a little cluttered after use in a hurry. Then cleaned and put back in position when time is there.

My vanity can get cluttered up, but I do love having it in my bedroom :)

I LOVED my vanity when I was younger. I would sit and just organize it all day long.

What a beautiful post, Dawn! Lovely put into words. My glass vanity is minimalistic: my fragrances, a couple of beautifully designed perfume bottles instead of jars to hold my brushes, a few of my accesories, the ones I wear frequently, thrown casually on a tray. The rest goes in the drawers in an organised mess. ;)

It's definitely cluttered, but I'm working on it. I am in the process of DIY'ing a tray to corral my perfumes and scrubbing up a julep cup to hold my brushes. Hopefully it'll look something like that last vignette! Soo girly and perfect! xox

Well, I'm not so sure about the "chic" part...but I'm for sure OCD about my spaces! It makes me cranky and practically *claustrophobic* when there is a bunch of stuff in my space. It drives my husband crazy because I am always putting his stuff away and then he can't find it (c:

Beautiful images! I love the little glass with the peony in it, it's so simple. I like to keep a few everyday pieces of jewelry and a tray of perfumes on my vanity. A bit of cluttered simplicity I think.

mine is most definitely cluttered, but it's easier that way ;)

I try so hard to leave it neat with only a few things on it - but lets be honest, that is simply not realistic. It ends up cluttered after a day or two of reorganizing. Hope you had a wonderful day, hun!
Much love,

I love this post! Envious of your glass vanity-how lovely. Mine is cluttered - no matter how many times I clear it!

Gorgeous vanity --- I don't really have a designated vanity put I cluster my perfume bottles on a pretty silver tray.

How fun to have access to all in the beauty industry!

Love that you're meeting up with blogger friends and enjoying the beautiful NY weather. We're heading home tomorrow...looking forward to a relaxing weekend by the water!

I have a Louis XV dressing table with glove boxes, Chanel mirror, french tray with 12 silver topped jars, silver basket with jewelry inside it, Tiffany swan basket with dried flower fragments, a pillow filled with lavender, a heartshaped box my sister made me with a high heel shoe, feathers and other goodies on it, porcelain flowered small lamp with vintage shade all crafted flowers from France--I'll never get over playing with my things.
